Discovering God is Enough

Chonda shared very openly about the struggles, tragedies, and joys of her faith journey.  She has been a Christian comedian for 20+ years, but much of her humor has come from very real pain & loss in her life.  Chonda grew up in an abusive home, where her pastor father suffered from manic depression and routinely threatened to kill himself.  She was raised with a strict church upbringing that she has rebelled from in unhealthy ways, yet that rich spiritual heritage continues to shape her faith and has become fodder for much of her comedy.  But Chonda’s success as a female comic created a lot of tension in her marriage & parenting, and she described with great vulnerability the struggles in her marriage to David, and the estrangement of her daughter, Chera.  She talked about David’s alcoholism and death in 2014, and how she’s rebuilding her life after that tragic loss.  Today, Chonda is still pursuing the Lord, and understands that the evil she’s experienced is part of our broken world.  She also recognizes she has a great ministry platform for women today — helping them find their true identity and value in Jesus.
