With Mitch gone to work with the FBI in Virginia, Connie believes he has lost interest in her. The couple gets into a full-blown argument when he goes a few weeks without writing.
Seth becomes the object of Mandy’s affection and she tries to get closer to him. Mandy signs up for evangelism class after learning that he’s one of the leaders. Liz, however, is picked to be Seth’s evangelism partner, and Mandy takes it that she’s stealing him. They fight, and both girls refuse to apologize first. “So your lifelong friendship is over?” asks Connie. It appears to be.

In "Black Clouds," a fierce storm interrupts Joanne and Connie’s road trip, forcing them to take cover at Ethel’s Diner. Ethel, an eccentric woman to say the least, mostly sees only "floods and travelling fools who’ve lost their way" at her out-of-the-way greasy spoon. Yet the three ladies are about to meet a very special visitor.
