The programme features Rev. Tommy Nelson speaking to a congregation at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, on dating relationships based on the Song of Solomon. Tommy states that dating is observation and takes a little bit of time and politeness; while courtship is deeper than observation and involves trust, vulnerability, and responsibility.
Dating is marketing; courtship is the close. To have a good courtship, Tommy states four things must occur in your dating relationship: 1) Have the wisdom to properly evaluate the character of the person that you have dated and are going to court; 2) Have consistency in dating; 3) Be able to communicate honestly; and 4) Have patience in letting the relationship progress—don't escalate a relationship too quickly.
Tommy reads from Song of Solomon 2:8-14 and relates these verses to a description of what a man or woman should feel in a good courtship. He warns singles against becoming washed out spiritually as a result of immoral relationships; rather, a good relationship should cause each person to flourish and feel desire and life by being around the other person.
