A life-changing getaway with your preteen

Your child begins the journey into adolescence in a world of sexting, bullying, online stalking and moral defiance. Innocence is under attack, and you cannot win the battle with a single awkward talk or a strict set of rules. The primary defense for your child is a strong relationship with you and with God.

FamilyLife has developed Passport2Purity (P2P) to assist you in building heart-to-heart communication with your preteen while laying a foundation of purity that will prepare them for the turbulent years ahead. Through the shared listening experience, object lessons and guided conversations of a P2P weekend getaway, you can set your son or daughter on a journey of moral integrity and strengthen the bond between you.

Passport2Purity is designed to be used by a mother and daughter or a father and son when the child is a preteen. It is suggested that the materials be completed over a weekend away from home, as the child may be more open to discussing the topics away from his or her normal environment. If this isn't possible, the material can be completed over a period of four or five weeks.

Set includes:

  • 1 tour guide for parents
  • 1 travel journal for the preteen, including 25 follow-up devotions
  • 1 CD containing 5 sessions and scripture memory songs

This is the reason I left Christianity

I was subjected to this as a pre-teen girl. Before you buy, please read about the harmful repercussions of purity culture. This course ultimately led me to leave evangelical Christianity. After being sexually assaulted as a teenager, I believed I was worthless because my virginity was gone. The object lessons compared me to paper that had been glued together and pulled apart, ruined. A balloon that had been filled with holes and couldn’t be fixed. I was told I was unworthy of a good man, because I couldn’t give him the most precious gift - my virginity. Please do not set your children up for this. They are worth so much more than their sexual purity.

Please don’t do this to your children

I’m writing this as a 24 year-old 12 years removed from the fateful weekend my mom took me on a Passport 2 Purity “getaway.” It has taken me years to deconstruct and reconstruct a healthy narrative of biblical sexuality after this fear-based curriculum full of harmful narratives of being “unclean” “dirty” and “broken.” This is perhaps the most harmful way to talk to your children about the gift of sexuality and will do more mental damage than an open and honest series of conversations will. Please please please. Do not do this to your children.

Good memories.

I did this with both my girls. They really enjoyed it and have good memories. They are 25 and 27 married with babies on the way. My approach was to wait till they were more mature, and in a long term relationship( not a couple months) with someone they could definitely see a future with.

Awesome Retreat and Resource

I used this book with my daughter as part of her journey to the teenage years. Prior to using the book we had been going on dates periodically and discussing how God made her beautiful on the inside (Dannah Gresh - 8 Great Dates for Mom and Daughter). We went on the retreat and we both ad a great time. She was 12 at the time of the retreat. Afterward, we continued going on dates periodically and working through the devotionals at the end of the book. It took us 2 years to finish the devotionals since we went slowly. This process of dates following the retreat has opened up a communication channel such that she still feels comfortable approaching me about questions. Purity is important and is very undervalued these days. If you don't tell her how it is a precious gift from God, she may not hear it anywhere else. Also, it is important to share how God's healing and forgiveness can heal all wounds.
